ALL LOCAL 6TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO PATICIPATE IN THE BIG 8 “NO-CUT” SPORT OFFERED IN THAT SEASON.  YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN CLOSEST PROXIMITY TO YOUR PHYSICAL RESIDENCE.  6TH GRADE PARTICIPANTS WILL COMPETE AGAINST ALL 6TH & 7TH GRADE ATHLETES IN OUR JV DIVISION, WHILE ALL 8TH GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN THE VARSITY PROGRAM.  ATHLETES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY “UP” OR “DOWN” IN TERMS OF THE DIVISIONS.

Competition

The Boys & Girls Of San Dieguito BIG EI8HT Sports Conference sponsors 10 sports - girls volleyball, cross country, flag football, boys basketball, girls field hockey, wrestling, track & field, golf, girls basketball and boys volleyball. Teams compete with local middle schools in-and-outside the district.

Fall Sports: Cross Country (no cut), Boys Flag Football, Girls Volleyball & Golf

Winter Sports: Boys Basketball, Girls Field Hockey & Wrestling (no cut)

Spring Sports: Girls Basketball, Boys Volleyball & Track (no cut)

 

Members

Approximately 1,400 student-athletes are being served from Earl Warren in Solana Beach, Diegueno and Oak Crest in Encinitas, and Carmel Valley, just east of Del Mar, as charter members of the BIG EI8HT. Associate members include Bishops, Francis Parker, Rancho Santa Fe, Santa Fe Christian, Aviera Oaks and Valley. Ten percent (10%) of the athletes were on scholarship to play middle school sports. Our policy of "no child is ever turned away" applies to the Boys & Girls Of San Dieguito BIG EI8HT Sports, as well.

Athletic Commission

The Boys & Girls Of San Dieguito BIG EI8HT Sports Conference is led by a commission to ensure that all sports are top quality. Chargers' Hall of Famer Doug Wilkerson heads this prestigious collection of former local athletes and coaches including NFL head coach Dennis Green, NFL alum John Allred, Pete Jones, John Kentera, John McCulley and Ed Johnson
